Napa Firefighters Museum contains the history of firefighting in Napa from its earliest days with leather buckets then a handrawn pumper to later motorized apparatus. There are original historic photos, a scrapbook and examples of many of the tools and paraphernalia used in support. See aerial maps of the City of Napa going back to 1937 and check out the store with T shirts and books. The engines and trucks are all in running order.
The department began staffed by volunteers with four hose companies and an 1859 Jeffers Hand Pumper ("Pioneer Engine No. 1") imported from the East coast. In 1906 a Knott Steamer was added and the firefighters became an official paid department of the city.
The goal of the Historical Committee is to collect, preserve and display fire related memorabilia. These displays will permit future generations to examine history through the realism of treasures as reflected by the nineteenth and twentieth century artifacts.
The Napa Firefighters Museum is largely funded by supporters, attendees/ visitors and community fund raisers. Staffing is provided solely by volunteers.
The Museum provides space for a wide variety of rotating displays from other community members, activities, and interests.
The Museum encourages tours from special groups and schools. Many of these are conducted by special appointment out of normal business hours.
There's ample free parking and many good resturaunts nearby.
